🚸 Last week we celebrated National Crossing Guard Appreciation Day and we are thrilled to share that two of our crossing guards have been named 2023’s Most Outstanding Crossing Guards! 🎉
Congratulations to Gloria Query, from Crestwood Middle and Treakle Elementary, and Barbara Beniamino from Butts Road Intermediate and Butts Road Primary. They are only two of six crossing guards in the state to be awarded this honor. Our Chesapeake Virtual Academy (CVA) is proud to offer fully online courses to students enrolled in Chesapeake Public Schools. Serving students in grades K-12, CVA offers a wide range of core and elective classes, including Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses, and provides special education services for students with disabilities, gifted enrichment opportunities, and services for English language learners.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2024-2025 school year. Students remain connected to their home schools and may participate in all sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities. 📚 Western Branch Intermediate recently received a $5000 grant from the Dollar Bank Foundation to purchase a book vending machine! #CPSCelebrates
In collaboration with their PTA, the vending machine is stocked with incredible books full of adventures. The machine promotes positive behavior and encourages students to earn tokens for their favorite books. In addition to reinforcing positive behavior, students are also fostering a love of reading and language development. 🌟 #InspireCPS #EmpowerCPS

School Counseling runs in the family! Her mother, Avelyn Chambers is the longest-tenured school counselor in our district (44 years) and is the only school counselor that Thurgood Marshall (formerly Park Elem) has ever had.
