The graphic reads: "Winter Growth Assessments"

Students in grades 3 - 8 will take winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) in reading and math during the February 3 - 14 testing window. The VGA will primarily measure current year content but may ask some questions above or below the targeted grade level, depending on student answers. There is no passing or failing score for the VGA; they are intended to ensure that teachers, parents, and students receive feedback on how well a student has mastered content that may be needed for success for the remainder of the school year and to identify areas where a student may need additional support.

Do all students in grades 3-8 take the winter VGA?

Students eligible for the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) do not participate in the VGA.  Middle school students taking Algebra or Geometry will not take the math VGA.

What should my child bring on VGA test day?

It is expected that your child will bring their fully-charged Chromebook to school on testing days. Please note that cell phones, personal electronic devices, and other unauthorized materials are not permitted during testing.

Virginia Assessment Performance Reports

Your child’s VGA scores will be available through the Virginia Assessment Parent Portal.  Access codes for fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) Parent Reports and Student Detail by Question (SDBQ) Reports are the same. If your child enrolled after the end of the fall VGA (Oct. 10, 2024), their codes will be provided to parents in the ParentVUE documents folder by Feb 14.  Your child’s winter VGA performance reports will be posted within 10 school days of test completion.

The Virginia Assessment Parent Portal is a web-based portal allowing parents to review each student’s SOL or Growth Assessment Parent Report and Student Detail by Question (SDBQ) Report.

Parents without an account will need to create and verify a Family Account. The account will remain active through multiple years and only one account is needed for each family.

The state Parent & Caregiver Resources for Virginia Assessment website provides additional resources for determining your child’s performance, questions to ask your child’s teachers, and support tools to help continue learning at home.
