Attendance Waiver Information

HHS Attendance Waiver Request Form - Due May 29, 2024

  • Attendance in high school is counted by individual class and not by an all-day attendance code.

  • To receive credit for high school classes, the VDOE requires that students have not only a passing grade in a course (63.5+), but also a minimum amount of “seat time” in a class.

  • Students can miss up to 9 days in each semester-long class.

  • Students only need to apply for a waiver if they have more than the allowable number of absences.  Students may not exceed

    • 9 absences in each 1-credit semester-long class

    • 9 absences in each year-long, alternating-day class

    • 18 absences for each year-long, 2-credit class

  • Students and parents can check attendance by class in StudentVUE or ParentVUE by going to the attendance tab and hovering the mouse over the bar next to the class name. See the screenshot below. Parents, if you do not have access to ParentVUE, contact your child’s guidance counselor.  For immediate access, ask your child to show you StudentVUE on his/her Chromebook.
