About Black History Month
Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the role of African Americans in U.S. history. The 2025 Black History Month theme, “African Americans and Labor”, focuses on various ways that work of all kinds - free and unfree, skilled and unskilled, vocational and voluntary - intersect with the collective experiences of black people. The annual theme celebrating Black History month is selected by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH®). The mission of the ASALH is to promote, research, preserve, interpret and disseminate information about Black life, history, and culture to the global community.
