Dear Wildcat Families,
Due to increased safety and traffic concerns, along with multiple complaints to the school office, we are implementing the following changes starting Monday, October 14, 2024. GBP has worked with our School Resource Officer and our Safe Route to Schools coordinator on these changes. By working together, we can ensure the safety of our students during our parent morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
There is NO left turn into the school off of Albemarle Drive. During drop-off and pick-up times, cones will be placed at the end of the school driveway, preventing cars from making a left turn into the parent car line. ALL cars must join the car line via Cedar Road. This is being done to prevent frustration and potentially aggressive behavior with cars trying to cut the car circle line.
Parents will NOT be allowed to pick up students from the main office after 1:45 p.m. Parents picking up students late has created situations where staff members rush to get students off of buses, which delays our dismissal procedures and makes buses late to bus stops. The ONLY exception to this rule is if Nurse Hill has called a parent to pick up a sick child. Parents who arrive after 1:45 p.m. will be directed to join the car circle line.
During afternoon dismissal, parents who walk up to pick up their children will NOT have their number entered into the system until after the first round of cars has been loaded in the car circle. Parents are to wait in line as indicated by a sign placed on the sidewalk. It is highly encouraged NOT to park and walk up during parent pick up. It is truly faster to join the car circle line. On average, we load 150 students in cars in less than 20 minutes.
Please do NOT park in neighboring businesses parking lots. You could be towed.
These procedures are being implemented to help our drop-off/pick-up lines run smoothly and safely. Rest assured, these changes will make the process more efficient and less stressful for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation in following these procedures. The information in this email will also be shared via social media and our school website. Parents will also see a text message instructing them to read this email.
Sincerely,
Joseph Mason
