Course Offerings
A list of course offerings is available below. Course availability will be determined by enrollment and may vary from those listed.
Services for students with exceptional learning needs (EL, gifted, and special education) will be provided.
Elementary School Courses (Grades K-5)
Elementary school students in Chesapeake Virtual Academy receive instruction in English and language arts (reading and writing), math, science, and social studies. They also participate in elementary resources classes, including music, art and physical education. Services for students with exceptional learning needs (EL, gifted, and special education) are provided.
Middle School Courses
Middle school students in Chesapeake Virtual Academy select courses in English, math, science, and social studies. All students also participate in health and physical education and Core Plus. Services for students with exceptional learning needs (EL, gifted, and special education) are provided.
Students may also enroll in one full-year, one single semester, or two single semester elective courses with CVA or in the Virtual Virginia program. Electives are optional and limited to select courses. While Virtual Virginia electives are open to students in grades six through eight, students may only take each elective course once during their middle school career.
Students may view scheduling information for the 2025-2026 school year on the CVA School Counseling Department page . The CVA Middle School Counselor, as well as zoned school counselors. are available to help students select courses and enroll in CVA.
High School Courses

Courses not offered through Chesapeake Virtual Academy can be taken through Virtual Virginia.
The high school credit courses listed below are available to CVA students in the 2025-2026 school year. Course availability will be determined by enrollment and may vary from those listed below.
Students Taking Health & PE I and Health & PE II
Students must keep a log of physical fitness activities and submit it to their teacher on a weekly basis.
Physical fitness activities must occur for the entire duration of the course. Students who complete 65 hours prior to the official end date for the course are required to continue to submit hours through the end of the semester.
Physical fitness hours can be earned through a variety of activities including team sports, group fitness classes, and individual workouts.
Students enrolled in Health & PE I will schedule an in-person meeting with their CVA instructor to complete physical fitness testing and the CPR training needed for graduation.
Students enrolled in Health & PE II will schedule an in-person meeting with their CVA instructor to complete physical fitness testing. Students do not receive any driver’s education instruction when taking Health and PE II through CVA.. Students are responsible for obtaining their own driver’s education instruction at their own cost and in their own time.
