National School Nurse Day

Each of our schools is fortunate to have a School Health Advisor, more commonly known as a School Nurse. This dedicated person performs critical services to prioritize the health and wellness of all the people in our schools, both students and staff! School nurses act as the bridge between healthcare and education in order to promote the health and wellness of our students. Families feel confident that their children will be cared for at school thanks to their care and essential support.

Wednesday, May 8, 2024, was National School Nurse Day. Our Health Services department commemorated this special day by celebrating our School Health Advisors at a local restaurant and presenting three awards to stand-out employees for the 2023-2024 school year.

  • Nurse of the Year: Penny Dunbar, RN, Float Pool

  • Clinic Assistant of the Year: Jolene Westerman, Hickory High

  • Rookie of the Year: Jamie Cabel, RN, SECEP

We are so grateful for our dynamic team of school nurses and their efforts to meet the needs of students by improving the delivery of healthcare in our schools. Their important work helps students stay healthy and ready to learn and their influence makes a positive difference in the lives of children every day.
