Graphic reads: "MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING" on a branded blue background with the Chesapeake Public Schools logo and the Chesapeake Sheriff's logo.

The Code of Virginia concerning the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the school board in a school division and local law-enforcement agencies requires school boards to ensure that current district MOUs are conspicuously published on the division website and that the district provides notice and opportunity for public input during each memorandum of understanding review period. (§22.1 – 280.2:3.).

The MOU with the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office regarding School Resource Officers (SRO)  is now available for review. An SRO is a certified law-enforcement officer hired by the local law-enforcement agency to provide law-enforcement and security services to Virginia public elementary and secondary schools.

The public was invited to participate in an annual review of our  MOU with the Chesapeake Sheriff's Department during a two-week public review period - September 28, 2023, through October 12, 2023.
