After reviewing recent recommendations from the School Health Advisory Board (SHAB), Superintendent of Chesapeake Public Schools, Jared Cotton, asked a team of school administrators and athletic directors to re-evaluate the district’s plans for winter sports. As a result, CPS announced on December 9, 2020, that it would pause all athletic practices for one week to give the team an opportunity to review mitigation strategies and re-assess its plans. At the Monday, December 14, 2020 School Board Meeting, Dr. Cotton announced that CPS will extend that pause through the week of January 4, 2020. An update will be provided to all families once this team has made its final recommendations.
According to Supervisor of Student Activities, Kevin Cole,
“We are all looking forward to the start of winter sports. In order to proceed, we need to make sure we are creating the safest environment possible for all students and staff.”
Final recommendations will be presented to the school community at the Monday, January 11, 2021, School Board meeting.
