Chesapeake Public Schools Revised 2.0 GPA Policy for Athletic Eligibility for 2022-2023
The 2.0 requirement for student-athlete eligibility has been revised for the first semester of the 2022-2023 school year. A student-athlete who does not meet the current 2.0 GPA requirement will be allowed to use their one-time probation period during the first semester of the school year 2022-2023 if he/she established a 2.0 GPA at any time during their 8th-11th grade school years. In order for a student-athlete to use their one-time probation period the following criteria must be met:
-
Student-athlete must be VHSL eligible (pass 3; no repeat courses) as determined by the school
-
Schools must determine which semester the student-athlete established a 2.0
-
Schools must submit all supporting documentation to the Office of Student Activities
-
The Office of Student Activities will review documents to determine eligibility
-
If approved by the Office of Student Activities, the student-athlete will be permitted to use their one-time probation period during the fall semester of the school year 2022-2023 under the following conditions:
-
Schools must communicate with the student-athlete and parent(s) in writing that he/she is using their one-time probationary period
-
Schools must also communicate with the student-athlete and parent(s) in writing that he/she will not have another probation period during their high school career.
-
Student-athlete must attend mandatory study hall during the sports season
-
Schools must maintain a list of student-athletes who use their probation period under this provision
-
*Spring athletes will not be granted a probation period. Spring athletes are expected to have a 2.0 GPA either cumulatively or from this fall semester in order to be eligible.*
