On Wednesday, November 21st, as students and staff prepared for the season of thanks and giving, they were able to honor one of the reasons for the season.
Throughout the month of October, celebrated as Kindness Month, students gravitated to making our school-wide community project a success by indeed “Showering Kindness on Our Community.” Students donated toiletries, snacks and weather wear with the sole purpose of giving to the homeless throughout the community. Student participation became infectious and continually inspired others to give.
This year the school chose to give to the shower ministry of First Baptist Church, Bute Street of Norfolk. Their shower ministry provides a non-traditional method of showers to the homeless community by way of a shower bus! Students were able to tour the bus and were in awe at the sight of two shower and dress areas on a bus for those in need.
Treakle was able to donate 26 prepped snack/toiletry bags along with eight additional large boxes of supplies topped with bows. The five church representatives were overwhelmed with excitement and thanks for the kind gesture shown by the students and staff of Treakle.
