Chesapeake Public Schools is proud to offer a variety of fully online courses to all students enrolled in the school division. Online learning ties in with our strategic goals – empowering our teachers to connect with students across the division while increasing student engagement and choice. Beginning fall of 2020, teachers throughout the division will offer blended and fully-online learning opportunities for all students on the Schoology Learning Management System (LMS). This LMS will help teachers to offer personalized learning experiences for students.
Online learning offers flexibility to students while providing instruction aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning. Online courses require students to work independently, demonstrate excellent time management skills, and be motivated to succeed.
Our students may take advantage of online courses for initial credit through Chesapeake Online or Virtual Virginia. Students also have opportunities to enroll in credit recovery if they need to earn credit from a course they previously failed. Any K-12 student interested in taking fully online courses should visit the Chesapeake Online page for additional information. In addition, high school students, and some middle school students, are eligible to enroll in courses through Virtual Virginia. School counselors are available to assist students with selecting courses and enrolling in online learning opportunities.
Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, Chesapeake Virtual Academy (CVA) will offer high school students the opportunity to take a variety of fully online courses as part of their high school experience.
