The City of Chesapeake, in partnership with Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS), is embarking on a long-term Facilities Master Plan (FMP) to identify and prioritize the current and future needs of our public school facilities. An attendance zone boundary study will immediately follow the FMP to identify opportunities to improve the efficient use of school facilities and transportation resources.
As a part of this effort, the city and district are forming a steering committee comprised of students, teachers, parents, and district, community, and business leaders. The Steering Committee’s role is to provide feedback to the City, the district, and the consulting team. Input from the Steering Committee is vital in developing facility plans and identifying attendance zone boundary options for consideration.
Members of the Steering Committee will be requested to attend six meetings throughout the 2019-2020 school year. We are asking for a firm commitment from each Committee member to ensure the effectiveness of this planning process. The dates for the first four meetings are October 24, 2019; January 7, 2020; January 28, 2020; and May 13, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In addition, members of the Steering Committee will be asked to attend at least one of the five Community Dialogue Meetings that will be held throughout the year.
Community Dialogue Meetings: November 20 & 21, 2019; March 11 & 12, 2020; One additional meeting date is yet to be determined.
