Families were offered the choice of two options:
Option 1 – The Continuum or Option 2 – Chesapeake Online.
Option ONE, the On-Campus Continuum provides as much on-campus time for students as possible, while following the health guidelines in place. Based on current public health metric data from School Health Advisory Board (SHAB), Option 1 students will begin Temporarily Online on the Schoology Learning Management System.
Option TWO, Chesapeake Online is a 100% online learning model that will allow families to keep their children learning at home in a virtual classroom. This will be taught by Chesapeake Public Schools teachers and managed on the Schoology Learning Management System.
There are many numbers reported on a daily basis. It can be difficult to determine exactly what to focus on when making decisions about the health and safety of our students, families, and employees. Therefore, we take our lead from our local health officials.
Our Chesapeake Public Schools School Health Advisory Board (SHAB) will serve as an advocate for a comprehensive school health program designed to protect and promote the health and well being of students and school personnel. Our SHAB is composed of individuals from broad-based segments of the community, including parents, private and public health officials, a Chesapeake Public Schools board member, social service representatives, school administrators and educators.
Our SHAB is in constant communication with the Chesapeake Health Department to ensure we are aware of the current COVID-19 case numbers in our area. Their recommendation is to use Pandemic Metrics for the Eastern Region, in conjunction with Chesapeake health data as our guide. If an exposure occurs within our buildings, we will adhere to the guidelines for communicating Covid-19 positive cases outlined here.
The reports linked below show a weekly snapshot of the COVID-19 Metric Data for our area. This provides a general overview of the impact to our community; total number of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and specific impact on our schools.

* The column titled “On-Campus Continuum Impact” (above) will identify the instructional model delivered to students enrolled in the On-Campus Continuum (Option 1) and may identify potential shifts along that continuum.
Students enrolled in Chesapeake Online (Option 2) will not be impacted by Covid-19 data.
