There are many numbers reported on a daily basis. It can be difficult to determine exactly what to focus on when making decisions about the health and safety of our students, families, and employees. Therefore, we take our lead from our local health officials.
Our Chesapeake Public Schools School Health Advisory Board (SHAB) will serve as an advocate for a comprehensive school health program designed to protect and promote the health and well being of students and school personnel. Our SHAB is composed of individuals from broad-based segments of the community, including parents, private and public health officials, a Chesapeake Public Schools board member, social service representatives, school administrators and educators.
Our SHAB is in constant communication with the Chesapeake Health Department to ensure we are aware of the current COVID-19 case numbers in our area. Their recommendation is to use the Virginia Department of Health Pandemic Metrics for the Eastern Region in conjunction with CDC School Metrics data – both of which are linked below. If an exposure occurs within our buildings, we will adhere to the guidelines for communicating Covid-19 positive cases outlined here.

VDH Dashboard: Outbreaks in School Settings
This dashboard lists public and private K-12 schools that are currently experiencing or have experienced a COVID-19 outbreak. Transmission must occur within the school facility or at a school-sponsored event among students, faculty, staff, or visitors to be classified as a school-associated outbreak.
The reports linked below show a weekly snapshot of the COVID-19 Metric Data for our area. This provides a general overview of the impact to our community and our schools.
In late October 2020, VDH dashboards sharing local & regional metrics were made accessible to the public. This shift prompted a change to the metrics reports posted here, which will no longer be updated weekly, but will remain to help communicate when public health data impacts our on-campus continuum (via the Impact Statement report).
It is our hope, that by using this standardized format, we can provide data to those who are interested in tracking the presence of COVID-19 in our area in real-time, straight from the source of the reporting.
Please read our Impact Statement dated October 26, 2020, for more information.

* The column titled “On-Campus Continuum Impact” (above) will identify the instructional model delivered to students enrolled in the On-Campus Continuum (Option 1) and may identify potential shifts along that continuum.
Students enrolled in Chesapeake Online (Option 2) will not be impacted by Covid-19 data.
