Congratulations to Grassfield High’s Patricia Cawley, recently named the city-wide Reading Teacher of the Year for 2019 – 2020. Ms. Cawley’s experience covers a wide range of levels and disciplines – debate, public speaking, journalism, and English, to name a few. She solicits and values feedback from her students when making literary selections within her classroom. Student interests determine differentiation in literacy instruction while increasing student ownership and accountability in achieving personal goals.
Her professional expertise is also demonstrated by the numerous presentations on teaching and literacy strategies she has provided to faculty and staff.
She has been a member of several professional organizations such as the Chesapeake Reading Council, Virginia State Reading Council, National Education Association, National Council for Teachers of English, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Journalism Education Association.
