NOTICE: WORK POSTPONED (Updated 1/15/2020)
We’ve been alerted that the railroad crews suffered major equipment failure and will therefore not be closing any crossings on January 15. They will not be returning to the crossings at Keaton, Sunnybrook, Goodman, S. Military, and Franks Truck Stop until later in the year. The crossings at Snowden, Bisco, and Turn Ln will likely be rescheduled for the end of this week or next week.
For additional updates, please visit the City of Chesapeake’s website.
Recently we learned that Southern Commercial Development, LLC, a contractor working on behalf of CSX Transportation, will close several railroad crossings in Chesapeake to accommodate routine track maintenance and repairs. These closures are expected to last from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the scheduled dates (see below). This schedule is subject to change without notice.
According to the contractor, there will be no vehicular access during the closure hours as vehicles will not be able to cross the tracks. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained as construction allows. If residents leave the neighborhood before the closure begins, they will not be able to return with their vehicles until their crossing has been reopened. Residents may choose to park their vehicles on the opposite side of the crossing (if there is space to do so in a legal and safe manner) and walk to and from them when necessary.
We will directly notify families whose children’s bus routes may be affected.
Railroad crossing closures will occur from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Schedule subject to change without notice:
- Keaton Way (near Keaton Ct.) – Jan. 14
- Sunnybrook Ter. (between Sunkist Rd. and Cedar Grove Cres.) – Jan. 14
- Goodman St. (off of Airline Blvd.) – Jan. 15
- S. Military Hwy. (between W. Military Hwy. and Ridgeway Ave.) – Jan. 15
- Crossing behind Frank’s Truck Stop (off of W. Military Hwy.) – Jan. 15
- Snowden St. (off of S. Military Hwy.) – Jan. 15
- Bisco St. (between W. Military Hwy. and Sondej Ave.) – Jan. 16
- Turn Ln. (off of W. Military Hwy.) – Jan. 16
It is important to note that this project and associated closures are not managed by the City of Chesapeake. For questions, please contact Southern Commercial Development, LLC at (803) 808-3600.
