Reading Teacher of the Year

Reading Teacher of the YearCongratulations to Ms. Laura LabyakReading Teacher of the Year holding flowers

Ms. Labyak’s 29 year career has been devoted to reading—first as an elementary reading teacher, then as a Reading Specialist, and now as the Instructional Specialist at OSM focusing on English.  She works to improve reading here by working with the teachers to improve instruction  and by serving on the Literacy committee. She promotes reading with the students by working with them in English classes, talking with them about books, and adding free books to the library merit store. In addition to promoting literacy at OSMS, she promotes literacy state and city-wide.  She was elected as a Member At Large to the Virginia State Reading Association Board of Directors and after serving 2 years as President of the Chesapeake Reading Council.  She currently serves on the Chesapeake Reading Council Board as Past President. Congratulations for being selected as our Reading Teacher of the Year!
