Join the team of families from Carver Intermediate, Portlock Primary, Rena B. Wright Primary, Truitt Intermediate and Thurgood Marshall Elementary Schools as we prepare for the end of the school year. Learn tips for building effective routines, creating meaningful study habits, preparing for SOL Testing and gearing up for summer activities. Experts from Chesapeake Public Schools and Chesapeake Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism will be on hand to share information with you. Light refreshments and raffle prizes will be provided.

NEW in September 2023: Block Scheduling

megaphone clip art imageBeginning in the fall of the 2023-2024 academic year, Oscar Smith Middle will change from a traditional bell schedule to a modified block schedule. It is important to note that this new schedule will not change our school-day times of 8:55 AM to 3:33 PM.

ACCESS 7th & 8th Grade Virtual Family Night

ACCESS College FoundationThe Early Awareness team is hosting the All-District Family Night event by Zoom again this year. It will take place Tuesday, March 21st at 6:00pm.

On the night of the event, families will:

  • hear from their Early Awareness Advisor
  • learn how Access helps prepare students for college and beyond
  • have a chance to win gift card prizes

After School Tutoring

OSM Tutoring Do you need help in math, reading, writing, history or science? After School 345-445 PM Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays in the media center. Must have a ride home at 4:45 PM

After school tutoring is held in the media center and extra help is available in all subject areas. After school tutoring is from 3:45-4:45 and students must have a ride home at 4:45. Tutoring will be held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Affordable Internet Connectivity Program (ACP)

Internet Connection

Families who are eligible for free and reduced-priced meals are also able to participate in a new program designed to reduce the cost of internet for households who qualify. A qualifying household will receive $30 a month towards internet services and a one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, desktop, or tablet. Families can check their eligibility and register at GetInternet.gov or by calling 877-384-2572.

 

2022-2023 Teacher of the Year

We are so excited to announce that Ms. Tina Saurers has been named our Teacher of the Year!  Ms. Saurers has been at OSM for 30 years and has taught 6th grade science for all of those years.  She has impacted thousands of our South Norfolk families, including our very own Assistant Principal, Dr. Amanda Jones.  Please join us in celebrating Ms. Tina Saurers!!
