Student of the Week!

Lakshita D, a sophomore enrolled in the Pre-IB. program, is our Student of the Week.  Lakshita represented Virginia at the 2017 U.S. Marine Corps Junior and Cadet National Wrestling competition.  In order to compete, Lakshita had to place in the top 3 at the VAWA Virginia State Championship and attend a week long National training camp.  Lakshita competed in both the Women’s’ Cadet division (age 14-15) and Women’s’ Junior Division for students in grades 9-12.  Wow!!

Oscar Smith’s Kenny Easley Elected to HOF!

Kenny "The Enforcer" Easley

Oscar Smith Graduate Kenny “The Enforcer” Easley has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Easley was an electric player while at Oscar Smith becoming the first player to throw and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season in Virginia. Kenny went on to UCLA (3 times All-American) before being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks (1981-1987) where he would be selected for 5 Pro-Bowls, win NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1984, and be chosen for the All-Decade Team. In 1996 Oscar Smith Honored Kenny by naming the Football field in his honor (Beard-DeLong-Easley Field). Kenny will be joining the Pro Football Hall of Fame along with 6 others in the 2017 class and has chosen his former coach at Oscar Smith, Tommy Rhodes, to give his induction speech. Congrats to Kenny and his family for this amazing honor.

OSHS Named a Blue Star School AGAIN!

A blue star with the text "W!SE blue star school 2016 graduating financially literate students"

Once again, Oscar Smith High School has been named a 2015-2016 W!SE Blue Star School. Blue Star status is awarded to a school, testing more than ten students, that has achieved a 75% passing rate on our Financial Literacy Certification Test and has EITHER a majority of students on a given grade level take the Test OR have the students who took it achieve an average score of 85% or higher. This is no small feat; congrats to all Faculty and Students who were involved in this honor!!
