Teacher of the Month

Amanda Battle

Amanda Battle, an English Teacher by day, is our honoree for what she helped make happen for our students.  Amanda is the driving force behind our school’s recent trip to Charlotte, NC to see Hamilton. We can’t begin to tell you all of the work she had to do in a very short period of time, but she was focused and found a way to get everything done.  Another great example of our outstanding faculty going above and beyond. Congrats, Mrs. Battle!!

2019 Teacher of the Year, Steve Buonviri

Steve Buonviri and studentsCongratulations to Steve Buonviri, the 2019 Oscar Smith High School Teacher of the Year (pictured with some of his students)!  Mr. Buonviri has taught for 17 years, all at Oscar Smith.  He started in the Science Department, for 6 years (Biology and Marine Biology), before his passion for healthy living led him to teach Physical Education.  Mr. Buonviri can often be found all over the building pitching in or mentoring students.  He is a true asset and we are lucky to have him as part of Tiger Nation and as our Teacher of the Year.  Congrats, Mr. Buonviri!!

Students of the Week

Rori and HannahCongrats to our newest Students of the Week, Rori P and Hannah B!!  These awesome Tigers were selected to perform an original duet on the stage of the Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte, NC before a screening of Hamilton (see Teacher of the Month) last week.  Wow!  Another awesome example of our young Tigers doing exceptional things.  Keep making us proud!
