Deborah Goughenour, who mans the front desk in the Main Office, is our Staff Member of the Month. She recently helped Mr. Degnan (not Dugan) in that annual pursuit of getting back fully completed Federal Impact Aid cards. While this is one of the most important funding mechanisms for our school division, getting completed Federal Cards returned for every single student in the school is one of the most challenging tasks anyone could take on. Mrs. G is relentless in this effort and will make every effort humanly possible to commandeer this elusive prize. She does an amazing job and our school system is able to recoup thousands of federal dollars because of her tenacity. Thank you, Ms. G!
This week’s Student of the Week is Angelica Labat (pictured with Ms. Owens). She recently led the Tiger Gymnastics to the Southeastern District Title. In addition to being a great athlete, she is an exceptional student and will attend Illinois State on a scholarship next year. Congrats, Angelica and keep up the good work!
Congratulations to Steve Buonviri, the 2019 Oscar Smith High School Teacher of the Year (pictured with some of his students)! Mr. Buonviri has taught for 17 years, all at Oscar Smith. He started in the Science Department, for 6 years (Biology and Marine Biology), before his passion for healthy living led him to teach Physical Education. Mr. Buonviri can often be found all over the building pitching in or mentoring students. He is a true asset and we are lucky to have him as part of Tiger Nation and as our Teacher of the Year. Congrats, Mr. Buonviri!!
