This week we honor two musicians as our Students of the Week! Cyeria Allen (left), a senior was named to the 2019 All-Virginia Choir. Samantha Foley (right), a junior was named to the 2019 All-Virginia Band. Both students had to go through a highly competitive audition process for membership for a limited number of the best high school musicians in the state. Amazing accomplishment from two talented Tigers!
Most of you who have not ventured out to the bus ramp don’t know Ruby Warner, our latest Staff of the Month, but we have come to rely on her generosity in filling in for missing buses and taking extra runs on a daily basis. Miss Ruby will come back time and time again to make sure all of our kids get home. She will take any of our runs, even some that could be challenging to someone who does not have her ability to maintain discipline without screaming and yelling at kids. Our students know she is there for them and they respect her for taking on the extra challenges each day as we scramble to find ways to get our kids home. We owe her a great debt of gratitude; thanks from all of Tiger Nation, Miss Ruby!
Each month we will be asking students to nominate a teacher that exhibits the character trait of the month. This month we are focusing on EMPATHY! Students please use the Google Form to nominate the teacher you feel best exhibits empathy.
Congratulations to Steve Buonviri, the 2019 Oscar Smith High School Teacher of the Year (pictured with some of his students)! Mr. Buonviri has taught for 17 years, all at Oscar Smith. He started in the Science Department, for 6 years (Biology and Marine Biology), before his passion for healthy living led him to teach Physical Education. Mr. Buonviri can often be found all over the building pitching in or mentoring students. He is a true asset and we are lucky to have him as part of Tiger Nation and as our Teacher of the Year. Congrats, Mr. Buonviri!!
