The Custodial Services Department oversees the custodial operations of all Chesapeake Public School buildings. The department works directly with school administrators to manage, train and coordinate all custodial activities. The department also collaborates with School Plants, Warehouse, New Construction and Purchasing to ensure our schools are ready for occupancy.
Our Schools and Buildings
Provide a safe and supportive learning environment
In order to provide all schools and buildings with a clean, safe, and healthy environment, the department and its staff completes daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks. These tasks include management solid waste removal and management of our recycling program. Our custodial staff also performs specialty cleaning tasks and preventative maintenance and repairs on custodial equipment.
Our Custodians
Custodial Services employs over 340 custodians in over 50 of our schools and support buildings.
Many of our custodians are on duty twelve months a year. When our schools are on break all summer, our custodians are cleaning, moving furniture, stripping and waxing floors, and completing maintenance projects that they are unable to complete while schools are in session. To support our valued employees, the department has a Custodial Advisory Committee (CAC) which meets monthly with representatives from our schools and support buildings.
