“School Counselors Make A Difference In Student Success”

Welcome to the Jolliff Middle School Guidance Department.  To contact your child’s Professional School Counselor click send us an email or call (757) 465-5246.

The Guidance Department at Jolliff Middle School comprises three dynamic school counselors.  Mrs. Geshla Windley is our school’s Guidance Director, and she also oversees our eighth-grade students.  Mrs. Jacqueline Palmer has the pleasure of working with our seventh-grade students.  Mrs. Sherri Ruff our sixth-grade counselor works with sixth-grade students and assists with the transition from elementary to middle school.

Middle school students face many challenges throughout the academic school year.  Our JMS school counselors provide assistance with students’ academic, behavioral, and social growth.  It is important that students know that they have a support system in place, and our trained counselors and available to assist them.  Another important role of our school counselors is to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents.  Our JMS guidance team is comprised of devoted professionals whose main goal is to help serve the Jolliff academic community.

Students may pick up a request card from the guidance mailbox located at the entrance of the guidance department.

The following services are provided:

  • Group counseling

  • Individual counseling

  • Student orientation

  • Parent orientation

  • Conflict mediation

  • Middle and High School Scheduling

  • Academic and Career Planning

The Guidance Department looks forward to working with your child this school year and together we will ensure that your child will have a most successful school year!

Helpful Resources:

For information on Free Internet Services During Covid

Comfort Zone Camp, a national bereavement camp headquartered in Richmond, VA provides free resources for grieving children ages 7-18 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver.

Weekend Camps

Our in-person weekend camps combine traditional camp activities and support groups that we call healing circles. All campers are paired 1:1 with their own big buddy, who serves as their anchor, mentor and friend. At camp, we see kids break their isolation, get back to being a kid again and gain tools to help them in their everyday grief journey.

CZC At Home—Virtual Camps

In 2020, we developed a virtual camp called “CZC At Home” to help us continue to reach grieving children during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, through “CZC At Home”, many of our campers were able to connect with other grieving children. We’ll continue to offer virtual programs in 2021.

Family Camps

In 2020, CZC also began holding in-person family camps with separate tracks for kids, ages 7-17 and parents. The programs mirror each other with healing circles, free time, challenge course, bon fire and more! Each family sleeps together in a cabin. This program helps strengthen the entire family with their grief.
