Proposed Rezoning Options for Crestwood Elementary School and B.M. Williams Elementary School

Chesapeake Public Schools’ Capital Improvement Plan calls for the primary and intermediate schools at the elementary school level to be converted to K-5 elementary schools, where feasible. In accordance with this, the replacement building for Crestwood Intermediate School will be K-5, with B. M. Williams Primary School converting to a K-5 building in conjunction with the new school's opening. Three options were initially presented to the Board on December 9, 2024. A fourth option was requested by the School Board on January 30, 2025 that was then presented on January 30, 2025.

Capital Projects

Capital project needs for Chesapeake Public Schools are outlined in the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The CIP is updated annually, and is a management tool for planning the capital improvement projects costing $100,000 or more that will be needed to serve students adequately in Chesapeake. As such, it is useful for (1) estimating capital improvement expenditures over the future five-year period, (2) identifying short and long-range (ten-year) building projects, and (3) establishing priorities for the orderly completion of projects.

Items Included in the Capital Improvement Plan:

  • Necessary mechanical and maintenance projects

  • Modernization or renovation of existing facilities

  • Planning for future permanent new or expanded facilities

  • School attendance zone reviews

  • School enrollment and capacity information

  • Technology infrastructure upgrades

  • Other projects related school grounds and facilities

  • Project cost estimates
