School Closings and Delays
Chesapeake Public Schools is committed to the safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors. We work closely with national, state, and local safety officials to ensure that our facilities are prepared to handle an emergency. In the event of school closures due to weather or other emergencies, or if school operating hours change, parents and staff will be notified via our Parent Alert System (PAS) and transcripts of those messages will be available here.
In the event of a delay or early closing, staff and students must adhere to the following:
Non-essential employees should NOT arrive any earlier than the specified delay. Any exceptions must be approved by a supervisor.
When an emergency early closing is called, all employees are expected to leave buildings and facilities at the time designated for the early closing. Only employees designated by supervisors as essential for the closing of facilities are authorized to remain beyond the time designated for the early closing.
Designated essential personnel should follow the directions provided by their supervisors.
When schools are closed due to inclement weather, the following closing codes will be used:
Emergency Closing Codes
CODE 0 | Schools and offices are closed. |
CODE 1 | Schools and offices are closed. |
CODE 2 | Schools are closed. Offices are open. |
