Program Name: Building Trades I & II

Program Details: 1 Year, 4 High School Credits

Building Trades I (Fall Semester) introduces students to skills in the four core areas of residential construction: masonry, carpentry, electricity, and plumbing. Students emphasize safety by earning the Construction Industry Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 card as they build or repair residential structures, using a variety of materials and tools. Students will also learn current residential building codes associated with the trades.

Building Trades II (Spring Semester) teaches students advanced skills in masonry, carpentry, electricity, and plumbing. The class prepares students to synthesize these valuable skills to build or repair residential structures, using a variety of materials and tools. Students will also learn current residential building codes associated with the trades. 

Core Skills:

  • Apply basic construction safety standards

  • Electricity

  • Understand local, state and federal regulations

  • Perform basics of electricity, Select and install conductors

  • Apply basic wiring, understand code book, identify and install panelboards and switchboards

    • Carpentry

      • Use basic carpentry skills

      • Frame walls, floors, ceilings, roofs 

      • Install roofing and stairs

    • Masonry

      • Use masonry skills, lay concrete units, mix cement, perform masonry skills

    • Plumbing

      • Perform basic plumbing tasks

      • Install waste and soil pipes, rough in water pipes, install fixtures and trims
