Celebrating School Social Workers

Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS) is proud to celebrate our school social workers! These professionals serve a vital role in supporting our division. They enable CPS to excel in educating all students by promoting conditions for learning in the home, school, and community settings. As part of our education team, school social workers address a wide range of issues including bullying, attendance, truancy, social-emotional challenges, behavioral difficulty, and help create safe and supportive environments for learning.  

Boys Basketball Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Coach Lavar Griffin from Oscar Smith High School! Coach Griffin was named the 2018-2019 Southeastern District Boys Basketball Coach of the Year. Griffin led the Oscar Smith Tigers to the state semi-final game this year.

National School Breakfast Week

National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) is an annual national campaign designed to raise awareness of the National School Breakfast Program in school communities across the country. NSBW was launched in 1989 by the federal government as a means for all K-12 students in the United States to have access to nutritious school breakfast. Fine Arts Month

Chesapeake Public Schools is proud to celebrate Fine Arts Month in March. The fine arts encourage students to develop invaluable skills, among them creativity, observation, communication, and problem-solving.  Art education promotes the understanding and sharing of culture, enhances awareness and respect of others, and improves perceptual and cognitive skills. Chesapeake Fire Department Service Award

Congratulations to Richard Oss, Occupational Safety/Loss Control Specialist, recently recognized by the Chesapeake Fire Department with the Citizen’s Service Award. His invaluable assistance in forming and strengthening relationships between the schools and first responders has created stronger safety and security practices for Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS). Thank you for helping make safety a top priority for CPS!

Digital Learning Day
