Month of the Military Child

Month of the Military Child is observed each April to honor and celebrate military children and youth for their service, commitment, and sacrifice in support of the armed forces. Due to Chesapeake’s geographic proximity to numerous Naval and other military bases, our district is home to well over seven thousand six hundred (7,600) active duty military-connected students. We are honored to serve our military families and value the unique and varied ways military kids enrich our classrooms and community.

Chesapeake Public Schools is proud to celebrate all military-connected children this month. In addition to the special celebrations our schools are planning, we are excited to recognize our military children at these district-wide events:

Monday, April 19 at 6:00 p.m. Special Resolution at School Board Meeting CPS partners with Chesapeake Television to broadcast all School Board meetings live online and on local television cable providers.
Tuesday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. Salute to the Military Child Virtual Concert Tune in to our CPS YouTube Channel to watch the live premiere and post a message of gratitude in the chat. Musical performances will feature performances by Fleet Forces band and district students. This special event will also include a photo slideshow of our military students.
Wednesday, April 21 Virginia Department of Education Purple Up! for Military Kids Day On this day, we encourage staff and students to wear purple in honor and recognition of our military-connected students.
