Ms. Terre Werts, Principal

Ms. Terre Werts is in her ninth year as Principal at Indian River Middle School. Ms. Werts feels that in order to motivate students, you must establish a unique connection with them. Each student needs to know that they are valued and that their commitment and determination to their own learning is important, not only to themselves and their families, but also to their administrators, teachers, and community.

Ms. Chatman is in her third year at Indian River Middle School. She is a graduate of Norfolk State University and obtained her Leadership degree through The George Washington University.  This is her 26th year in education and she has found that developing good relationships with students, staff and parents has been a big part of her success.  As an administrator she hopes to lead students to their highest potential, by first setting the example, being transparent, providing necessary resources and enjoying the journey.

Mrs. Johnson is in her second year as Assistant Principal at Indian River Middle School. She is a graduate of Indian River High School. After graduating from Indian River High, she received her Master of Science in Education from Old Dominion University. She later went on to Regent University to receive her Educational Specialist Degree in Administration. During her career she has taught middle school Math, Science and English and has served as a Title 1 Instructional Coach. She believes all students can achieve success and strives to ensure that all students not just meet but, exceed their full potential. She looks forward to establishing positive relationships with the Indian River community!

Mr. Kesner is in his first year as Assistant Principal at Indian River Middle School.  He comes to Indian River with 3 years of leadership experience and 7 years of classroom experience.  He is a graduate of Deep Creek High School. He received his Bachelor’s of Art in History from Christopher Newport University. Later, he went to Old Dominion University to receive his Master’s of Science in Education focused on school leadership. He has taught middle school Mathematics for 7 years and has been an Assistant Principal for 3 years. He aims to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to Indian River Middle School.
