Notes from the Nurse on Cold and Flu Prevention
You can help protect yourself from respiratory illnesses by following these simple steps:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand cleanser and wash your hands with soap and water as soon as possible.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid kissing, hugging and sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are sick.
- Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick.
Review these steps with your student and remind them to cover their nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. If no tissue is available, tell them to cough into their sleeve. This will help the spread of germs.
Please note, there is no nurse at school before 8:15 a.m. and after 3:45 p.m. If your student requires an inhaler for asthma or an Epi pen for a possible life threatening allergic reaction, please obtain a self-carry order signed by your physician. A copy of that order must be maintained in the clinic. If your student has before or after school activities, they must obtain a self carry order to participate.
