Congratulations to Greenbrier Intermediate School (GRI), a recent recipient of the Virginia Naturally School designation. GBI’s environmental stewardship efforts during the 2018-2019 school year placed them among 66 Virginia schools to earn the distinction. Virginia Naturally Schools is the official environmental education school recognition program of the Commonwealth, administered by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries with support from the Department of Education, Department of Environmental Quality and other resource agencies. GRI is the only school in Chesapeake to accomplish this goal, achieving the distinction 15 times.
Those schools recognized showcase the combined efforts of students, teachers, and 378 years of environmental education. GRI’s recognition and environmental efforts also support the Profile of a Virginia Graduate through the development of the students’ Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, and Civic Responsibility.
