Interstate Compact on Education Opportunities for Military Families

The key provisions of the Interstate Compact that are most applicable at GFE are:

  • While documentation of an appropriate physical examination are required at the time of enrollments, parents have up to 30 days to submit a series of immunizations.
  • Children shall be allowed to continue in their enrollment at their grade level at GFE commensurate with their grade level in their sending school, school regardless of age. Kindergarten children must have enrolled and attended class in the sending state to assure continued attendance at GFE.
  • Under the federal requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Chesapeake Public Schools shall provide comparable services to a student with disabilities based on his/her current Individualized Education Plan (IEP and in compliance with the applicable laws.
