Book Club

Description: Pick from a selection of books – vote on one.  Read that book as an individual and come together once a month to discuss the book.
Cost: The cost of each book unless you find it at the library or public library.

Buck$ Club (Financial Literacy Club)

Description: Provide financial awareness for students to learn how to save, about credit and the implications of not being money savvy at a young age.

Chi Alpha Mu (Math)

Location: Room 814

Description: Welcome to Chi Alpha Mu! Chi Alpha Mu, which stands for Creative Adventures in Mathematics, is the National Junior Mathematics Club for middle schools. Founded in 1967, the organization was reactivated by Mu Alpha Theta in 2008 to promote enjoyment and understanding of mathematics by middle school students.  Please note, this club provides opportunities for mathematics extension activities and projects, rather than tutoring or homework help.

Cost: No dues, but optional t-shirt.

Dates/Times: Third Thursdays (10/20, 11/17, 12/15, 1/19, 2/16, 3/16, 4/20, 5/18) from 3:45 – 4:45 P.M.

Drama Troupe

Location: Cafeteria (We will move to the auditorium once it is open for use again.)

Description: To learn more about the aspects of theatre.  This includes learning stage terminology, working on acting skills, participating in improv activities, creating sets, designing costumes/makeup, and performing in a spring production.    The club will promote communication skills, teamwork, socialization, and self-confidence.

Cost: $20 (new members) / $10 (returning members)

Great Bridge Baritones

Description: This group is for all low voices, or future low voices, that are enrolled in a chorus class. This group will focus mainly on pop music and will perform at all chorus concerts throughout the year.

Harry Potter Club

Description: The Harry Potter Club was established to celebrate everything in the wizarding world of Harry Potter.  It is open to all students (wizards and muggles alike) who love Harry Potter.  We do crafts, play games, do service projects, and have a ton of fun!  So, whether you have memorized the books and have watched every movie, or whether you are just getting started – we would love to have you join the fun!

Description: If you enjoy socializing with friends and reading books then this is the club for you. We will eat our lunch together and talk about the book we read that month.

Namastay Relaxed

Description: The purpose of the club is to provide a peaceful and relaxing place for students to unwind during lunch. I will provide a calm and welcoming environment where students can learn relaxation and focus strategies. This may include chair yoga, meditation, breathing strategies and tools to help cope with daily school stress.

Peer Connect

Description: Peer Connect is an after school club that focuses on social skills, friendships, peer relations, and problem solving social situations. Activities include various games, group discussions,  and off campus outings.

Cost: There is no cost to join; however students may be asked to bring money to the outings. . Dates/Times: TBD from 3:45-4:45pm

Relay for Life Club

Description: Relay for Life club raises awareness and support for cancer research and those who have and suffered from the disease.  Our goal is to promote events that bring students and staff together with the Relay for Life of South Hampton Roads, including the pink out game and luminary walk.

Meeting Dates: Friday afternoons after events with opportunities to engage at other activities, such as concerts and sporting events.

Cost: None.  Club tshirts will become available for purchase.

Running Club

Description:  The purpose of this club is to encourage students to stay active! We will be participating in a  variety of running-related games and activities as well as preparing the students to compete on the track and field team in the spring.

Description: Provide leadership to the school through planning fun events for the students, creating a platform for student feedback and making our school a better place. Two students chosen from each homeroom.

Select Treble Choir

Description: Select treble chorus is for seventh and eighth grade sopranos and altos who are enrolled in a chorus class. This group will sing music at a more advanced level and will perform at all chorus concerts throughout the year.

Vex Robotics Club

Description: This is a competition based club that will design and build a Vex robot to compete in competitions around the city and hopefully at the state level. Students will be given all the supplies and equipment needed to compete.

Description: Audition based advanced orchestra that performs at all concerts and hopefully events in the school and around the community.

Yearbook – Cat Tracks

Location: Room 812

Description:  The Yearbook Club is for any 7th or 8th grade student who enjoys taking pictures, attending school events, and helping to design the yearbook. Help brainstorm marketing, yearbook pages, and more!

Cost: $10

Dates/Times: First Tuesday of every month (additional third when needed) from 8 – 8:30am *Applications will be available in library –  Taking ~15 but any can apply*

 


Young Builders Club

Sponsors: Mr. Newman & Mr. Pascale

Location: Room 302

Description: Objective: Introduce students to the following: shop safety, use of various types of hand and power tools, finishing techniques, and creating new and interesting projects.

Projects: Create, design, and build various projects using our new 3D carving machine. Designing and building CO2 Dragster, Catapult, Cell Phone Stand, Wooden Bubble Gum machine, etc. 

Cost: $15.00 to cover materials for all projects

Dates/Times:  2nd Wednesday of each month, from October through February from 3:35 pm – 5:00 pm 

Limit: 20 *Open to students NOT in a Tech. Ed. Class this year*
