The Office of Exceptional Learning supports educational programming for students, ages two to twenty-one, who are eligible for special education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA ’04).
If you suspect that your child may have a disability requiring special education, contact your child’s school principal, or the office of special education at: (757) 494-7600. Please visit: If Your Child Needs Help, for more information.
The following information is being provided to assist in clarifying how the current school closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic will affect Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS) exceptional learners. Specifically, we want you to be aware of how the closure will impact special education (including related services such as speech, occupational therapy, and physical therapy), Section 504, and gifted education.
