Update 9/14/2018 4:00 p.m.

Hello, this is an UPDATE from Chesapeake Public Schools. We are pleased to report the impact of Hurricane Florence on our area appears to be minimal and the Governor has lifted the mandatory evacuation order. We will continue to evaluate our buildings over the weekend, but we do not anticipate any major damage. As a result, Chesapeake Public Schools will REOPEN at our normal start time for all students and staff on Monday, September 17, 2018. We wish safe travels to those who left the area in anticipation of the storm. We look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to school on Monday. Thank you!

Update 9/13/2018 at 12:00 p.m.

Hello, this is an EMERGENCY UPDATE from Chesapeake Public Schools.  While the track of Hurricane Florence has shifted south towards the Carolinas, Hampton Roads remains under a Tropical Storm Warning and the Governor’s mandatory evacuation order is still in effect for parts of the City.  As a result, Chesapeake Public Schools will remain CLOSED for all students and staff for the remainder of the week.  We will work to resume normal operating status as quickly as possible, once all buildings can be fully assessed and any restrictions have been lifted.  Currently, Greenbrier Middle School and Indian River Middle School are being used as shelters.  For additional shelter information and important updates, we encourage you to visit cityofchesapeake.net and sign up for Chesapeake Alert.  We will continue to communicate any additional updates using our Twitter account (@cpschoolsva), our website (cpschools.com), the Chesapeake Alert system, CPS-TV Channel 46, WFOS Radio FM 88.7, and our Parent Alert System.  Be safe and we look forward to welcoming our students back to school in the near future.
