The School Board of Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS) approved Superintendent Dr. Jared Cotton’s recommendation to appoint Dr. Brian T. Austin as the district’s new Chief Human Resources Officer. Dr. Austin will start his new position on July 1, 2021.
Dr. Austin recently served as the Superintendent of Lee County Public Schools, a role he held for 5 years. Prior to serving as superintendent in Lee County, he served as the Director of Administration and Business Operations for Botetourt County Public Schools. Dr. Austin has also served as Supervisor of Technology, principal, and math teacher positions over his 22 years of experience in public education.

In the coming months, I look forward to meeting with CPS staff and the many stakeholders who work to provide a safe environment, excellent learning opportunities, and contribute to student success. Dr. Austin holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision from Lincoln Memorial University, and a doctorate of philosophy from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
