Disability History and Awareness Month

One-fifth of all Americans have disabilities, including almost one million people in Virginia.  During October, Disability History and Awareness Month creates greater public awareness and emphasizes the importance of full inclusion in schools and communities for individuals with disabilities.

Join us this month for a variety of events celebrating inclusion and awareness:

  • “Empowering Students through the Ability of Art” – Art Contest entries due October 13, 2019.
  • “Empower Chesapeake: A Disability Awareness Discussion” – Community presentation at the Central Library on October 10, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
  • “Intelligent Lives” – Movie Night at Indian River High School on October 17, 2019, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Second Annual Walk and Roll at Hickory High School on October 19, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Register online for this free event.
