Art Club

Creative Writing Club

Come explore your creative side! We will do a variety of creative writing exercises including specific genre writing, junk journaling, and multimedia expressions.

Participants will need their own journal and writing utensils.

Debate

The debate team is a scholarly competition that has a city-wide tournament in early spring. Students create bills (laws) to debate at the city-wide tournament. Students will use research to argue their points and vote upon these bills.

Drama

If you love to put on a show then this is the place for you! Whether you want to be on stage, create props, costumes, and set, or work behind the scenes we have something for you at the Deep Creek Middle Drama Club!

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Club

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a club that meets .FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.  FCCLA will meet during 7th and 8th grade class times.  There will be 2  meetings that will meet after school which will be announced at a later date.

Forensics

Do you have a great speaking voice? Do you like to talk? We need you!!!                                                       

Forensics is a public speaking club that will allow you to develop your speaking skills and express yourself in new ways. Forensics members can compete in poetry, prose, or original oratory and there is a citywide competition in February.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA-ML)

FBLA-Middle Level (FBLA-ML) is the middle school division of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. FBLA helps students prepare for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs. FBLA is embedded into the Computer Science Concepts classes.

Green Hornets

A club dedicated to helping to conserve energy and resources. This club evaluates how we use energy in school and offers suggestions for improvement and conservation. Students will develop a greater sense of awareness of natural and man-made resources and help to educate their peers.

Ladies of Distinction

Ladies of Distinction (LOD): Is a club for girls with a mission to encourage, empower and equip girls to be holistically healthy and strong: educationally, emotionally, socially and physically. The LOD group is limited to 20 members and are chosen based on an application process. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month in room 403.

Mayor’s Ambassadors

The Mayor’s Ambassadors organization is coordinated through the Mayor’s office and meets the first Thursday of each month at a different location throughout the city of Chesapeake. The focus of the group is community service.  All middle school students are eligible to participate and you can miss up to two meetings in a year and still be in good standing.  One highlight of previous years has been marching in the holiday parade in front of City Hall in December.

Pay It Forward

A club dedicated to performing random acts of kindness for others.

Robotics Club

Robotics: The VEX IQ Robotics team focuses on computer coding, collaborating, critical thinking, and creative thinking to build, design and program robots to compete in robotic competitions in Virginia.  The robotics team is limited to 30 members who are chosen based on an application process. The robotics team meets every Wednesday in room 403.

School Newspaper – Hornet Hive

Students create articles, comic strips, short stories, poems, polls, reviews, etc. Their work is published to Deep Creek’s online newspaper: https://dcmhornethive.com/

Stock Market Game Club 

The Stock Market Game introduces young people to saving and investing through a simulation of the stock market and bond market. Teams will get to trade and manage their own virtual $100,000 investment portfolio.

Student Council Association (SCA)

Benefits of being involved in student council include: opportunity to improve reading and writing skills, gain experience in public speaking, and learn how to make a positive impact on school and community environment. In addition, student council serves as a chance to meet new friends and work with a wide variety of people.

Technology Club

The Technology is open to all DCMS students. Students of all experience levels are invited to learn about electronics, programming, and digital fabrication, and to implement their knowledge in various robotics builds. Additionally, this club will provide a chance for students to have extra time and get help with class projects, complete enrichment technology projects, or work on projects for the Technology Student Association.

Yearbook

We assist in yearbook sales, photography and design!  We take photos throughout the year of various activities and events, and compile them into a yearbook in the spring.
