Mrs. Tracy Cioppa – Principal
Mrs. Cioppa earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a concentration in History from Houghton College in upstate New York and a Master’s Degree from Old Dominion University in Administration and Educational Leadership. Mrs. Cioppa has served Chesapeake Public Schools for the past 14 years as an assistant principal as well as the assistant principal for instruction at Indian River High School and a previous administrative appointment at Hickory High School. The PTSA honored Mrs. Cioppa with the 2015-2016 Administrator of the Year award as well as a life time membership award in 2014. Additionally, Mrs. Cioppa taught Civics and Economics at Oscar Smith Middle School where she was also awarded recognition as their Teacher of the Year. Prior to serving the students of Chesapeake Public schools, she taught third grade for 2 years in a neighboring school division.
Mrs. Cioppa is married to Jeffrey Cioppa and they are proud parents of a son, Daniel, who is entering the first grade. She believes in providing the same quality education that she expects for her own child. Her goal is to assist families in developing a strong educational foundation for their children, encourage a love for and an involvement in school, and prepare students for middle and high school. Mrs. Cioppa is very excited to serve as the principal at Cedar Road Elementary. She seeks to accomplish these goals through collaborative efforts with her instructional staff and the community and through her compassion, high expectations, and enthusiasm.
Mrs. Kristin Rankin – Assistant Principal
Mrs. Rankin earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History with a minor in History from James Madison University. She earned her Master of Science degree in Education from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York. She taught for over four years in the South Bronx, New York, in grades Kindergarten through grade 5. After relocating to Virginia, Mrs. Rankin taught Kindergarten, grade 2, and grade 3 at Georgetown Primary in Chesapeake, Virginia. She also earned her Education Specialist degree in Leadership and Administration from The George Washington University. After nine years at Georgetown, Mrs. Rankin went to B.M. Williams Primary School where she worked for two years as a Title I Instructional Coach, working with teachers to enhance their teaching practices and serving as a resource for teachers and students. In addition, Mrs. Rankin earned an endorsement in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Regent University.
Mrs. Rankin is the proud wife of Alan, a military veteran. She is excited to join the Cedar Road Ohana and bring her fifteen years of varied experience in education to the students, staff, and families of this vibrant school community. She believes that education is an important investment in our world and a powerful tool in creating a bright future for our children. She is excited to learn and serve alongside the talented and dedicated staff of CRE support them in bringing out the best in all of our students!
