Anchored for Life

Butts Road Intermediate School
Chesapeake, VA

Saturday, April 23rd was the inaugural Chesapeake Public Schools Operation Military Families Event, sponsored by the Chesapeake Educational Foundation and organized by Family and Community Engagement Specialists. Several schools across the district were asked to lead sessions for military students and their families. Katie Hood, Renee Hayden, and Lora Horowitz (MFLC) from Butts Road Intermediate, along with six of their Anchored4Life Team Leaders participated.

One session consisted of decorating a personal page to be on display on the Wall of Heroes in Great Bridge High School. The other session worked on developing friendship and coping skills through playing a game of Jenga. Hugs, handmade pictures, and hearing students exchanging information to stay connected were just a few of the ways we knew we made a positive lasting impact. The Team Leaders excelled and jumped right in. They are already asking when we can help out again!

Wow, this is such a wonderful event for military families and an excellent opportunity for your Team Leaders to jump in and participate! We are so proud of your Team Leaders and your active participation to support them in practicing their leadership skills and building connections! Way to go!
