Life Insurance

All eligible employees receive basic life benefits through the Virginia Retirement System (VRS). You may elect to increase your life insurance coverage through VRS or by applying for optional coverage with Anthem.

Anthem Life Insurance

Basic Group Term Life and Basic AD&D Insurance is required with enrollment in a medical and/or dental plan. It is also available as a stand-alone plan. You will receive $10,000 of Basic Life and AD&D insurance at $0.96 per pay period.

Bonus Benefit for employees enrolled in Anthem Basic Life plan. Free access to a resource advisor with Anthem. These counselors can assist you on various topics like money matters, legal issues such as wills, identity theft, emotional problems, travel assistance, and more. Voluntary Accidental, Death, and Dismemberment (VAD&D) Insurance is available for you and your family. This optional financial protection plan provides a beneficiary with cash in the event that the policyholder is accidentally killed or loses a specific body part.

VRS Optional Group Life Insurance

All eligible employees receive basic life benefits through the Virginia Retirement System (VRS). The value of your life insurance is two (2) times your annual salary. You may elect to increase your life insurance coverage by applying for optional coverage.

Additional life insurance at group rates is available to VRS members as an optional benefit. This plan is sponsored by VRS and insured through Securian Financial. Members may purchase additional coverage, up to 4 times the employee’s annual salary. Spouse and child(ren) coverage is also available. Premiums are based on the employee’s age (and the age of the employee’s spouse, if spousal coverage is elected), annual salary, and amount of elected coverage.
