On Thursday, August 12, 2021, Plasser American, which manufactures maintenance of way equipment at its South Norfolk (Chesapeake) plant and is used nationwide to maintain railroad tracks kicked off a program called “On the Right Track.” The program commemorates Plasser American’s 60th anniversary in the United States as being on the right track in the rail industry. Plasser is also embracing the importance of being on the right track in the community. Danielle White, Project Coordinator for Plasser American explained,
“Many of our employees have children who attend the schools that are represented here today. It is important for us to show the importance of excellence through education and positive behavior. Supporting the schools perfectly aligns with our ‘On The Right Track’ program – we ensure the tracks are being tended to just like the needs of students are addressed and supported by fantastic teachers and principals.”
The roll out of “On the Right Track” culminated with a presentation of a $3,000 check to the principals, who were in attendance, of three Title 1 schools in the neighborhood: Truitt Intermediate – principal Mrs. Micheal Ottley , Thurgood Marshall Elementary – principal Mr. Anthony Perry , and G.W. Carver Intermediate (CAR) – principal Mrs. Michelle Ferebee. Each school will receive $1,000 and each school was also provided with $250 in gift cards from local restaurants and another $250 in games and other fun items for the students.
Mrs. Michelle Ferebee, principal of CAR added that “this donation will help us reach school goals for our Positive Behavior Interventions (PBIS) initiative and other programs designed to support and teach our students.”
