Mr. Leroy Harper, Head Custodian at Hickory High School (HHS), was named the 2022 National Rock Star Custodian by the Academy of Cleaning Excellence (ACE)! This national award recognizes exceptional professional custodians based on the “Rock Star Custodian” program, outlining 9 personality traits of a standout individual in this industry. Mr. Harper received the award during the school day at HHS in the presence of students, school and district staff, and his family. The award presentation was live-streamed during the Rock Star of Cleaning Festival in Orlando, Florida.
Mr. Harper was nominated for this honor in the spring of 2022 by Mr. Samuel W. Warren, Jr., the former Supervisor of Custodial Services for Chesapeake Public Schools. In his nomination, Mr. Warren wrote, “I don’t have to worry about whether Hickory will get the care and attention it needs. From inclement weather, additional maintenance from outside the school system, to dealing with custodial vendors, and deliveries, Mr. Harper runs Hickory High School as if he was the CEO. Mr. Harper is a trainer of men and women for advancement, even if it means he will lose them off of his staff. Never does he complain or lament the time and effort he puts into his people.”
Mr. Warren, now retired, was present during the award ceremony along with current Supervisor of Custodial Services, Mr. James Holmes, Jr., and others who also praised Mr. Harper. Congratulations, Mr. Harper!
