U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recognized Camelot Elementary School as one of the National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2020 in a special virtual ceremony on September 24, 2020.
Camelot’s prestigious award was in the category “Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing”, which honors schools that have made the greatest advances (top 15%) in closing subgroup achievement gaps in English and mathematics over the past three to five years, as measured by state assessments. This coveted award affirms the hard work of our Camelot staff, families, and community in cultivating a safe and welcoming school where students master challenging and engaging content.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors those public and private elementary, middle, and high schools with high standards for student learning or are making notable improvements in closing achievement gaps. Now in its 38th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on almost 10,000 schools. This year, 317 public schools were recognized. Camelot Elementary was one of the eight public schools recognized in the state of Virginia.
The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held virtually Nov. 12 and 13. School profiles of all 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools can also be found at https://nationalblueribbonschools.ed.gov/awardwinners.
Congratulations to Camelot Elementary!
