2021 Administrative Appointments: Educator Profiles

The School Board of Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS) approved Superintendent Dr. Jared Cotton’s recommendation to appoint the following individuals to new roles within the district starting July 1, 2021 during the May 27, 2021, School Board meeting:

 

Dr. Freddie Alarcon Dr. Freddie P. Alarcon, the new Director for Middle School Leadership, is excited to join the Chesapeake Public School family. Dr. Alarcon is finishing this school year, his 25th year in public education, as a principal for Virginia Beach Public Schools. The proud parent of two middle school students, he is passionate about middle school instruction and the impact high quality education plays in developing and motivating today’s learners. 
Dr. Angie Isbell Dr. Angela L. Isbell was appointed the new Director of Elementary School Leadership. Dr. Isbell has 24 years of experience in education, all in Chesapeake Public Schools. She has served in the role of elementary school teacher, assistant principal, principal, and for the last seven years as the program administrator of federal programs. Dr. Isbell is “excited to have the opportunity to work with a phenomenal group of educators in our shared pursuit of continued excellence.”
Dr. Kimberly McGrath Mrs. Kimberly L. McGrath, the new Director of Academic Support, is also looking forward to joining the CPS family.  In her 27 year career in education, she has served as a classroom teacher, an academic coach, an instructional specialist, an assistant principal, a supervisor, and currently serves Suffolk Public Schools as their Coordinator of Compensatory Services. Mrs. McGrath is deeply committed to creating opportunities for all children and believes “it is our job as educators to ensure all students have the support and resources needed to succeed.“
Dr. Shonda P. Pittman-Windham Dr. Shonda P. Pittman-Windham was appointed Director of College and Career Readiness. Dr. Pittman-Windham brings 23 total years of experience to this role, having served as a business teacher, technology integration specialist, assistant principal, and content supervisor. Currently, Dr. Pittman-Windham serves as the program administrator for the Chesapeake Career Center. She considers her new role “an honor and privilege to be charged with ensuring that the students of Chesapeake are equipped with the knowledge and skills consistent for both college and career readiness.”
Dr. Thomas Whitley Dr. Thomas A. Whitley will be the new Director of High School Leadership. Dr. Whitley has 33 years of experience in education, having served the last 8 years as the principal of Western Branch High School. He is “deeply humbled and honored to begin the next chapter in [his] educational journey as Director of High School Leadership.”
Dr. Kimberly Pinello Dr. Kimberly C. Pinello was appointed Principal of Hickory Middle School. Dr. Pinello has 31 years of experience in education, all of which have been served in CPS. Currently, she serves as Principal of Grassfield Elementary School. Dr. Pinello looks forward to becoming a Hawk once again and continuing “the legacy of excellence left by Dr. Debbie Hutchens and her predecessors.”
