Adult Continuing Education Program
The Adult Continuing Education program is designed to provide extended educational opportunities for Chesapeake adult citizens to enhance and/or expand their knowledge for professional and/or personal growth through participation in day or evening enrichment courses.
Continuing Education Units
Individuals who attend specific CPS programs are eligible to receive Continuing Education Unit credits (CEUs) and a certificate from Old Dominion University’s Darden College of Education. This opportunity provides an individual with a certificate, verifying professional growth and completion of a course. A certificate and permanent transcript of CEUs may be useful to professionals for promotions, employment or certification purposes. This offering is separate from the program registration fees and is optional for continuing education participants. Interested students are asked to complete and return the verification form with a check or money order in the amount of $20.00, payable to Old Dominion University. This form must be given to the instructor at the end of the course. If you require additional information, please call the Program for Continued Learning Office at (757) 683-4686 or the Adult and Continuing Education Department at (757) 482-5680.
Adult Education courses can be an excellent opportunity for teachers to enhance classroom instruction and obtain additional licensure points! Please see specific course description for applicable credit points. For more information on recertification points and CEU credits call 482-5680.
All students participating and completing Adult and Continuing Education course will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of each course.
Unless otherwise noted, the material fee for Continuing Education courses is $5.
Written or e-mail confirmation will be sent to registrants no later than seven days prior to the first class meeting.
CANCELLATION REFUND POLICY
Continuing Education courses are occasionally canceled due to low enrollment. If this happens, applicants will be contacted and given the opportunity to make an alternate course selection. A full tuition refund will be issued if an alternate course is not agreed upon.
WITHDRAWAL/TRANSFER AND REFUND POLICY
Students who elect to withdraw or transfer from a Continuing Education course must do so by the second class meeting. NO REFUNDS will be issued after the second class meeting. The Request for Refund form is available online or the Adult and Continuing Education Department’s main office.
The Adult and Continuing Education Department must adhere to the same schedule as Chesapeake Public Schools. Therefore when Chesapeake Public Schools are closed for scheduled holidays or due to inclement weather, no Adult and Continuing Education classes will be held.
